The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has commended the people of Bono Manso for preserving the area’s green vegetation and maintaining a clean environment, describing the effort as important to the development and promotion of tourism in the area.
The Minister made the commendation during a visit to Bono Manso, where she toured a number of historical, cultural and tourist attractions, including the Tanor Buasi Secret Growth, the Bono Manso slave market and waterfalls, after getting clearance from the Bono Manso chief, Nana Minkah Ameyaw.
Hon. Gomashie praised the community for its commitment to keeping the environment clean and protecting the natural surroundings of the tourist sites.
She said the preservation of the environment, together with the protection of the area’s cultural heritage, could enhance the attractiveness of Bono Manso and contribute to the growth of tourism in the region.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of language in preserving and promoting culture. She encouraged the people of Bono to learn and speak the Bono language and ensure that it was passed on to future generations.
She further called on academics and other relevant stakeholders to come together to document and promote the language, saying increased visibility of the Bono language would help strengthen the region’s cultural identity.
At the Tanor Buasi Secret Growth, where naturally formed stones and caves serve as a tourist attraction, the Chief of Bono Manso appealed to the Minister to support the development and beautification of the site to make it more attractive to visitors.
The Minister’s visit also took her to the Bono Manso slave market and waterfalls, a site associated with the history of the slave trade. The visit underscored the importance of preserving and promoting such historical sites as part of Ghana’s cultural heritage.
At the palace of the chief of Boabeng Fiama, the traditional leader welcomed the Minister and expressed appreciation to the government for road construction projects in the area.
He, however, appealed for the construction of some major bridges to address transportation challenges and called for improved telecommunications and internet connectivity, which he identified as a major challenge for residents.
The Bono Regional Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, also thanked the traditional authorities for welcoming the delegation and appealed to the tourism minister to remember Bono Manso in her development plans.
He urged residents to continue supporting efforts to develop the region and expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to serve the people.
The visit formed part of efforts to promote Bono Manso’s natural, cultural and historical attractions and position them for greater tourism development.
