Ghana and the Kingdom of the Netherlands have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation across key sectors, as officials from both countries marked King’s Day at the Dutch Embassy in Accra.

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, who represented the Government of Ghana as guest of honour, conveyed warm congratulations on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama to Willem-Alexander, the Dutch government and its people. She expressed appreciation for the invitation and commended the outgoing Ambassador, Jeroen Verheul, for his dedicated service and significant contribution to strengthening Ghana–Netherlands relations.

The Minister highlighted the long-standing partnership between the two countries, describing it as one rooted in shared values, mutual respect and a commitment to peace, stability and sustainable development. She pointed to ongoing collaboration in areas such as creative arts, agriculture, trade and investment, water management and climate action, while underscoring the relevance of Dutch expertise in coastal protection and flood control.

She also expressed optimism about further engagements, including upcoming bilateral political consultations in Accra, and reiterated Ghana’s commitment to working with international partners to address global challenges such as violent extremism, insecurity in the Sahel, irregular migration, food insecurity and climate change.

In his remarks, Ambassador Jeroen Verheul stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between countries with aligned interests, noting that Ghana and the Netherlands share both a rich history and strong prospects for future collaboration. He emphasized that global challenges, including transnational crime, insecurity and climate-related risks, require sustained international cooperation rather than isolated national efforts.

The Ambassador commended the strong track record of bilateral engagement between the two countries and highlighted ongoing efforts to deepen ties through high-level exchanges and preparations for the fifth round of political consultations in Accra. He also referenced a recent working visit to the Netherlands by a Ghanaian delegation led by the Minister for Agriculture, aimed at advancing cooperation under an existing memorandum of understanding.

Also speaking at the event was Ms. Wendy van Meel, Deputy Head of Mission, who joined dignitaries in acknowledging the enduring partnership between the two nations.

The celebration was attended by members of the diplomatic community in Ghana, as well as the Deputy Minister for Defense, Ernest Brogya Genfi, alongside other government officials and stakeholders.
