
The National Folklore Board has celebrated the 2026 International Storytelling Day with the Teachers and Pupils of the Ledzokuku cluster of schools.
The event which coincides with the Municipal Basic Schools Festival of Creative Arts and Culture was patronised by various dignitaries including Directors of Education and Traditional Leaders.
Presenting the keynote address, the Acting Executive Director of the National Folklore Board, Mr. Felix Yao Adjavor said that the day is significant especially when it coincides with the International Storytelling Day which falls on the 20th March, 2026.
He said that storytelling enable societies transmit wisdom, values, history and most importantly identity from one generation to another. “By commemorating this day, we are reaffirming our commitment to preserving one of the most fundamental pillars of our cultural heritage.”. He added.
Mr. Adjavor explained that storytelling is not merely entertainment but education, identity, and community. “It teaches honesty, bravery, humility and justice. “.
The Executive Director called on teachers to fully embrace the teaching of cultural activities in schools since the pupils do not only learn it but experience it and it becomes part of their identity.
He concluded that our culture is our root and if we nurture it, we strengthen our identity, preservation will mean honouring our ancestors and passing it on will result in securing the future of our nation.
