Ghana’s 2025 Independence Day celebration will take place at the Golden Jubilee House, the seat of government.

This breaks the tradition of the ceremony taking place at the iconic Black Star (Independence) Square in Accra, and the recent regional rotation of the venue made popular during President Nana Akufo-Addo’s eight-year tenure.

According to a statement from President John Mahama’s office, the 2025 celebration of independence will be “a scaled-down commemoration” which will take place “at the national and district levels only.

“There’ll be no commemoration at the regional level.”

“The regional ministers are to ensure that MMDAs scale down the commemoration in their districts,” the statement directed.

“The scaled-down national celebration will take place at the forecourt of the Presidency,” the statement underlined.

It explained, “There will be no parade or march past of security agencies and school children during the national celebration.”

The February 12, 2025, statement noted, “Other activities approved by the president are the 28th February Crossroads Shooting Incident and the President’s Special Awards for Children.”

See below the revised activities for the national celebration of independence on March 6:

* Mounting of a Guard of Honour by the security agencies.

* Cultural performances and recitals.

* National address by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
