The Chairperson of Passion For Needy (NGO) Mrs. Janet Torgbor El – Aschkar has called on the government to do more in support of the elderly in our society.

According to her, this will let them know that their contribution to nation building is much appreciated.

She made this call during the donation of pharmaceutical drugs for the health screening exercise of the Retired Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Staff Association members at Nungua

The Chairperson said that although the government has contributed immensely to the upkeep of the elderly in our society, more can be done especially in terms of their healthcare packages.

Mrs. Aschkar recounted the organisation’s contribution to the health sector since its inception in 2009. She mentioned the payment of medical bills at the Korle- Bu Teaching Hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital and Manna Mission Hospital for people who have been detained after treatment for non -payment of medical bills.

She said that the organization took a step further to prevent the recurrence of such situation by registering over 200 underprivileged people under the National Health Insurance Scheme at the Glife Community, Accra Rehabilitation Centre, Tenashie Primary School, and Teshie Presbyterian Junior High School.

 “ The organization also donated pharmaceutical drugs to the Nsawam Medium Prisons, Shai –Osu Doku Hospital, La Development Institute and the Osu Children Home.”, she added.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Association, Apostle Dr. Vincent Adotey Addo, the President of the Association thanked Passion For Needy for the kind gesture. He reiterated the need for the government to increase its support for the upkeep of the elderly who have contributed their quota to national development.
