The Electoral Commission (EC) has initiated the replacement of ID cards for constituents of Guan ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The Guan constituency includes the towns of Santrokofi, Agbafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL), which were excluded from the 2020 election due to the formation of the new Oti Region.
As a consequence, residents of SALL will now have representation in Parliament in 2024.
Mr. Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chair of the EC, announced the card replacement during a press conference in Accra, stating that it is essential due to voters in the Guan District having initially registered in the Jasikan District in 2020.
“The commission wishes to inform the general public that it has started replacing the ID cards for voters in the Guan District from Tuesday, October 3 to Thursday, November 2”, Mr. Tettey announced, adding: “This has become necessary because in 2020, voters in the Guan District registered in the Jasikan District”.
“With the creation of the Guan District, the voter ID cards bearing the Jasikan District have been changed to reflect the code of the Guan District,” he noted.
