On Friday, 21 July 2023, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia welcomed Ambassador Minata Samate Cessouma, AU Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development, along with the AU Advocacy Mission, to the Jubilee House for an audience and discussions on important continental matters.

During the meeting, the AU Advocacy Mission sought Ghana’s support in the rectification of the protocol on free movement, with the goal of expediting the integration of the African continent.

The team emphasised the significance of ensuring smooth and unrestricted movement of people across African borders to facilitate greater unity and cooperation among nations.

In turn, Ambassador Minata commended Ghana for its remarkable progress in implementing the seven aspirations of the Commission. Ghana’s commitment to advancing the goals set by the African Union was recognised and praised.

Vice President Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed Ghana’s pivotal role in promoting Pan-Africanism and advocating the integration of the African continent.

He highlighted the detrimental effects of artificial barriers that hinder the continent’s full potential and stressed the importance of removing such obstacles to foster greater continental harmony.

Given existing security concerns, the Vice President emphasised the necessity of adopting digital identification systems. Implementing robust digital identification measures would ensure safe and secure free movement across the continent, addressing potential challenges and providing a framework for seamless mobility.
