The newly constituted Governing Board of the National Folklore Board held its first official meeting at the premises of the National Folklore Board in Accra.

The inaugural meeting marked an important milestone in the Board’s renewed commitment to safeguarding and promoting Ghana’s rich folklore heritage.

Members of the Board gathered to deliberate on strategic priorities aimed at strengthening the protection, preservation, and commercialization of Ghana’s traditional cultural expressions.

In an interview with the Acting Executive Director of the National Folklore Board, Mr. Felix Yao Adjavor, he said that the meeting set a positive tone for the Board’s work going forward, with members expressing a strong commitment to advancing policies that will both preserve Ghana’s cultural identity and ensure that communities and custodians of traditional knowledge benefit from the use of their heritage.

According to Mr. Adjavor,the inaugural gathering concluded with a shared resolve among Board members to work collaboratively in strengthening the institutional capacity of the National Folklore Board and positioning Ghana’s cultural heritage as a valuable national asset for future generations.

He expressed his appreciation to His Excellency the President, John Dramani Mahama and the Tourism Minister, Abla Dzifa Gomashie for their efforts in constituting and inaugrating the Governing Board.

The meeting was described by participants as a fruitful beginning that signals a new chapter in the protection and promotion of Ghana’s folklore.
