The President, Nana Akufo Addo has said that the country is not broke as some propagandists want us to believe.

According to Nana Addo, his government is handing over an economy with Gross International Reserves of almost $8 Billion to the incoming government.

President Nana Addo made this known in his final state of the nation address at the Parliament House in Accra.

He said that the national economy has seen growth of 4.8% in the first quarter, 7% in the second quarter and 7.2% in the third quarter with a Gross Domestic Product of 2.6.

The President said that food prices are experiencing a decline whiles the private sector credit in nominal terms grew at 28.8%. “In real terms, growth in credit to the private sector improved to 5.5%”, he added.

President Nana Addo pointed out that government is servicing its debts to reduce the debt burden even to the extent that government will honour payments to Euro Bond Holders today amidst financing other ongoing projects. To the incoming Finance Minister, He advised” We cannot afford to default in our debt payment”.

Speaking on the banking sector clean- up, President Akufo Addo said that it was a bold decision to strengthen the sector and not for vendetta. He explained that it was a necessary decision to restore public confidence in the banking sector and the evidence is there for everyone.

On the establishment of the Office of the Special Prosecutor, he said that it was to address the issue of corruption head-on. He added that to give further support to the fight against corruption, government ensured that all anti-corruption institutions were well funded and all allegations against appointees were investigated by independent bodies that cleared them off any wrong doings.

Earlier, the President sympathized with the traders who lost their wares in yesterday’s infernal at Kantamanto Market in Accra. He assured them of government support when the necessary investigation is completed,
