The Dormaa East District Assembly, in the Bono Region of Ghana, as part of commitments to add value and boost its socio economic development, has commissioned an Eco-Tourism Center at Nsreseresu, a Community in the District.
The Center which is made up a Canopy Walkway built on an earth Dam and surrounded with a serene natural beauty has as part of its plan, a zip line which is already underway, a summer hut for relaxation, boat and horse riding among other recreations.
There will also be the introduction of different species of animals and plants. Aside the natural habitat and biodiversity surrounding the Dam are ornamental plants like cinnamon, nut-meg, coconut and others. The arrival lounge will not only receive visitors but also serve as learning center with records of historic events and artifacts.
The facility which is sponsored by the Ghana Production Safety Net Projects (GPSNP2), is in line with the first phase of projects implemented to create short term employment for the venerable in selected Districts. Such projects which were under the Labour Intensive Public Works (LIPW) aimed at contributing to a robust system for effective social protection delivery in the country as well as creating income earning opportunities and improve livelihoods of the projects beneficiaries.
Focusing on the benefits the facility will bring, the District Chief Executive, Honourable Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman said that not only would it conserve the natural resource of the area, but it would as well provide a platform for learning and boost the local economy through job creation and growth of small business in the surrounding communities.
He encouraged the local artisans and craftsmen to seize this opportunity to showcase their technical skills and products to reap the benefits available. The DCE mentioned that in order to reach the full potential of the project, a Board comprising representatives from the Ghana Tourism Board, Nananom, the District Assembly Staff and Assembly Members would be set up to oversee its affairs.
The Bono Regional Tourism Director, Alhaji Hakeem Ismael who commended the DCE and Staff of the Assembly for the uniqueness of the initiative, said the Tourist Board recognizes the importance of Eco-Tourism in today’s world hence their readiness to collaborate and support the project with managerial, branding and marketing assistance to sustain it.
