The District Chief Executive (DCE) Officer of Dormaa East, Honourable Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman, has commissioned and handed over a newly constructed six-unit classroom block to the Kumajemire District Assembly Primary School in the Nsesresu/Asuhiaye Electoral Area in the Dormaa East District.
The project which is made up of modern ancillary facilities and furnished with the state- of -the- art amenities is conducive and will transform teaching and learning in the school. It forms part of the government’s committed targeted intentions to ensure equitable and quality education to less privileged schools and children across the country through the Ghana Accountability for Learning Outcomes Project (GALOP)
The GALOP initiative is a five-year Ministry of Education Project which seeks to improve the quality of education in low performing basic education schools and strengthen sector equity and accountability in Ghana. The project would also among other things strengthen teaching and learning through support and resources for teachers.
At the ceremony, Honourable Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman explained that his quest for quality education for the people in the District drove him to the Ministry of Education in search for the project. He expressed his appreciation to all those who in one way or the other supported in bringing education to the door steps of people in far to reach places of the District.
The DCE noted that the important role education plays in the society cannot be emphasized; explaining that education helps in the fight against poverty, inequalities, intolerance and builds strong institutions which when put together fosters national development.
He charged stakeholders in the education sector especially teachers, parents and pupils to consciously and sincerely play their necessary roles well to help realize the full potentials of the beneficiaries.
On his part, the Member of Parliament for the area, Honourable Paul Apraku Twum Barima was very optimistic about the success of the District in the near future, looking at how talented some of the school children are which they portrayed in the choreography and poetry recitals.
Honourable Barima reminded the authorities of the need to keep the school safe, neat and well maintained. He gave a cash amount of Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 5,000.00) to start running the school and gave out two motorbikes which will later be delivered to the school. In addition, he promised to build a teachers’ bungalow for the school in a years’ time.
The facility was received with excitement and celebration by the Chiefs and people of Kumajemire; especially the teachers and pupils. Madam Grace Gyabeah, a teacher in the school said that the rugged and dilapidated wooden structure which formerly served as classrooms was a source of discomfort to the pupils and teachers. She pointed out that not only has the gesture brought relief to them, but it would go a long way to increase school enrollment and encourage teaching and learning.
