The Dormaa East District Assembly (DEDA) has earmarked Gh¢S90,678,252 for its 2026-2029 District Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP).
The funding, which will be drawn from the District Common Fund (DCF), the DCF-Responsive Factor Grant (DCF-RFG), and Internally Generated Funds (IGF), will primarily finance development projects focused on economic development, local industrialisation, and vocational training to boost job creation.
The comprehensive plan also prioritises institutional and environmental sustainability in key sectors, including Education, Health, Security, Portable Water and Sanitation, Greenhouse Agriculture, and Tourism, alongside critical renovations, innovations, and road construction.
District Development Planner, Mr. Roy Amoah, announced the proposed budget and the focus areas during a Town Hall Meeting held at the Asuotiano Presbyterian Church. The meeting was convened to engage citizens and key stakeholders on the drafted MTDP.
Mr. Amoah pointed out that the engagement is mandatory under the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936). “This public forum is where the drafted developmental agenda plan is presented and explained to the citizens, allowing technocrats to solicit public inputs to support the final MTDP,” he stated.
He further explained that the drafted plan is a true representation of the District’s needs, having been compiled by prioritising goals from extensive needs assessments and community engagement feedback collected across the District.
The final MTDP will be presented to the General Assembly for approval and adoption in compliance with the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) guidelines. Mr. Amoah assured attendees that provided the proposed funds are successfully accrued, over 90 percent of the projects should be achieved within the four years.
Present at the meeting were Traditional Leaders, Community Groups, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Development Partners, District Technocrats, Assembly Members, and Unit Committee Executives.
The Presiding Member (PM) of the District Assembly, Honourable Isaac Afi, who represented both the District Chief Executive and the District Coordinating Director expressed appreciation for the time and fruitful contributions from the participants, which he noted “will go a long way to improve livelihoods and the District.”
The PM appealed to citizens to be dutiful in paying their revenue to support government’s efforts in infrastructure development and other economic initiatives.
During the open discussion session, participants expressed concerns regarding employment issues and infrastructure projects in their communities. Notably among the issues is illegal mining (galamsey) which became a topical issue for discussion among the contributors.
