The Ghana Enterprise Agency has organized a training workshop for businesses within Tema and its environs to enrich them on digital marketing and financial services.

The programme which brought together business owners, managers, and entrepreneurs to explore the potential of digital tools and platforms in driving growth and success took place at the Tema Municipal New Assembly Hall.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Rebecca Nyame, Head of Business Advisory Centre spoke about the transformative power of digital tools and platforms in advertising and growing businesses.

She pointed out the benefits of mobile money, online banking, and digital payments, emphasizing the need for businesses to adopt new technologies and undergo digital transformation.

During the first session, Ms. Nyame’s presentation focused on understanding of digital systems and their applications in daily life, leveraging technology for efficient payment systems, and distinguishing between digitization (collecting and storing raw data digitally) and digitalization (using technology to streamline tasks).

She said that investing in businesses, utilizing modern devices like smartphones and computers, learning about digital marketing, and harnessing social media platforms to reach more customers helps to foster business growth.

In the second session, she led the discussion on the classification of businesses explaining that the classification of businesses is based on the size, the number of employees, and financial turnover.

These classifications she said includes the Micro Enterprises (from 1 to 5 employees, annual turnover of GH¢1.00 to150,000.00), Small Enterprises (6 to 30 employees, annual turnover of GH¢150,000.00-GH¢6,000,000.00), Medium Enterprises (31 to100 employees, annual turnover of GH¢6,000,000.00-GH¢18,000,000.00) and Large Enterprises (over 100 employees, fixed assets exceeding GH¢18,000,000.00)

On his part, the Head of Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) at Tema Municipal Assembly, Mr. Rueben Sackitey spoke about the launch of the Integrated Business Establishment Survey (IBES II), a nationwide data collection exercise aimed at gathering comprehensive data on businesses across Ghana.

He said that the Phase 2 has officially been launched in July, 2025, with over 2,000 trained officers deployed to survey more than 40,000 selected businesses across all 16 regions.

According to him, this is to collect vital information on business performance, job creation, capital investment, and obstacles hindering growth. It is also meant to provide essential data for computing major national economic indicators, including Gross Domestic Product, Producer Price Index, and Index of Industrial Production.

Some of the businesses and associations that attended the workshop included GNTDA; Tema Community 1 Zone, GNTDA; Tema Manhean Zone, Community 1 Market Association, Tema Newtown Market Association, Association of Small – Scale Industry (ASSI) and Garment Association.
